# What is Optimistic Etherscan?

[OP Mainnet Etherscan](https://optimistic.etherscan.io/) is the block explorer for OP Mainnet, built and operated by Team Etherscan.

A block explorer is a search engine for blockchain data. OP Mainnet Etherscan indexes OP Mainnet’s public ledger and lets users look up transactions, addresses, blocks, tokens, and smart contracts. It can be used to confirm transaction status, review wallet activity, track token transfers, and inspect verified contract code.

OP Mainnet Etherscan provides a clear view of activity on OP Mainnet but does not process or control transactions. It is not a wallet or brokerage service, does not store private keys or hold funds, and cannot reverse transactions or recover lost assets.

OP Mainnet will also be supported by the [Etherscan API](https://docs.etherscan.io/introduction). Developers will be able to access its onchain data (including balances, transactions, token transfers, contract source code, logs, gas data, and network statistics) using an Etherscan API key and the network’s `chainid: 10`.

Developers and AI agents will also be able to work with OP Mainnet data through Etherscan’s [Build with AI](https://docs.etherscan.io/build-with-ai/introduction) resources. These include the official Etherscan MCP server, the Etherscan CLI, reusable skills, and machine-readable documentation for integrating live onchain data into applications and automated workflows.

OP Mainnet Etherscan’s purpose is to make activity on OP Mainnet transparent, searchable, and accessible to users, developers, and researchers.
